He (and me)

'He (and me)’ is an exploration of Jemima’s role as parent carer to her teenage son Nathan, who has Down’s syndrome, Type 1 diabetes and would really like a girlfriend, which might explain his ongoing obsession with Romeo and Juliet.

Jemima and Nathan use the play Romeo and Juliet as a tool to understand Nathan’s desires and needs and a lens through which they tell their own stories.

Working in close collaboration with composer Jennifer Bell, their work uses verbatim text, drawn from interviews and conversations with both them and their family members.

'He (and me)’ is a METAL commission, supported by Arts Council England, and has been performed at The Space in Between, Southbank in 2018 and at Sophiensæle, Berlin in 2019.
